“Experiential learning is the process of making meaning from direct experience, i.e., learning from experience”. In other words, Experience it’s been specifically defined as “learning through reflection on doing. ” Particularly in higher education, there are some concepts that are difficult to understand and nearly impossible to master without hands-on experience. While different institutions may use different names, the basic purpose behind experiential learning or field education remains the same: to enable students to test out their skills and education in a real-world working environment. After all, reading about and practicing a concept in a classroom setting can only take a student so far. Allowing them to take their talent out into the community supports a knowledge-by-doing approach and provides students an opportunity to flex their abilities in an environment that may be similar to the one they will work in one day. While students may enjoy learning about a certain concept in class, they may feel differently once they get out into the field. In addition, these opportunities can help those who have already decided what they’d like to do figure out the best working environment.  Over the years, experiential learning has proven to have a wide range of benefits that contribute to a child’s development. Students who tend to ignore boring classroom lectures can learn better and in more meaningful ways, by applying concepts in real-life situations, and get real, tangible results. By incorporating concrete experiences with abstract concepts, and then reflecting on the outcome, students engage more regions of their brain and make stronger connections with the material.

This helps them better understand how the concepts learned can be applied to other, varied circumstances. A student can continue to learn from his house, in the park, during a visit to a factory or an office during a visit. With modern technology, tools, and online education platforms, students can work in groups from their own homes to develop a plan of action, and challenge each other to improve their own critical thinking abilities, even in volatile circumstances.
